How Would You Rate Your Mindfulness?

Humans have a habit of distancing themselves from their bodies because they believe their thoughts are superior to their bodies. We imagine that our thoughts govern everything. And yet, despite the fact that when we get sick or realize we have little control over our worry or sadness, there is ample evidence to the contrary. In truth, our minds and hearts are located within our physical selves. The sum of our mental and physical health is the sum of who we are. The information provided by our bodies can be extremely helpful, and in some cases even save our lives. It is the link to our senses that allows us to feel fully present, alive, and a part of our surroundings.

Mindfulness cannot be attained through logic alone. In order to live consciously, one must first develop the skills to recognize, label, and inhabit one's own physical form. You can use body-cen to evaluate past trauma, triggers, and other physical issues. Practicing mindfulness entails making room for the here and now. Each person has their own unique set of mental clutter (intrusive thoughts, negative self-talk, anxiety, despair, loneliness, etc.) that they need to work through in order to make room.

Making room for something does not mean we can ignore it. It's about getting a neutral, objective look at ourselves. For instance, rather than allowing anxiety to consume us, we can train ourselves to become more attuned to its presence, to where it manifests physically, and to how it influences our thinking. We may also advise our pupils to ditch their firmly held convictions, assumptions, and pat solutions.

Yviana's mindfulness classes are designed to help students develop or rediscover a connection to their physical selves by heightening their sensitivity to internal experiences. For more information contact the stiingqweenthingz@gmail.com
